BioShock - ScreenshotBioShock story takes place in an underwater city of Rapture in the year 1960. The city was built in 1940s and was meant to be a utopia for humanity’s greatest scientists, engineers, and workers that live, and prosper outside the control of world’s governments and authorities. Soon a substance is discovered called ADAM, found in a species of sea slug that live on the Ocean’s floor. By using ADAM, scientists were able to modify a person’s DNA that gave them superhuman like abilities such as telekinesis (a way to communicate directly brain to brain without voice from long distances https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telekinesis) and
BioShock - Screenshotpyrokinesis (ability to manipulate and speed up the atomic state to the point of combustion) and the substance ADAM became a very valuable product. The former gangster and businessman Frank Fontaine started the takeover by using his influence over the lower class. Fontaine creates a black market routes with the surface world. Together Fontaine and Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum created a cheap plasmid industry by manufacturing ADAM, to harvest plasmid, he implants the slugs in the stomachs of orphaned girls, code named Little Sisters. Fontaine uses his plasmid enhanced army to kill Ryan, but is killed in during the battle. Ryan then takes the opportunity and seizes his assets including the plasmid factories. Few months later a man named Atlas starts to speak for the lower class, creating more conflict. Atlas attacks the factories that are housing the Little Sisters.
BioShock - ScreenshotRyan defends the factories by creating plasmid enhanced humans that are surgically attached into the giant lumbering diving suits called “Big Daddies” that are psychologically forced to protect the Little Sisters at all costs. Rayan also creates his own enhanced soldiers called “Splicers” and controls them using the pheromones by spreading through the Rapture’s air system. Atlas contacts Jack through the radio and guides him to safety from the Splicers.

Atlas asks Jack for his help in stopping Ryan. Atlas explains Jack about his family and directs him to a docked bathysphere where he believes Ryan has trapped his family. Jack then encounters a Little Sister and its fallen Big Daddy, Atlas urges Jack to kill the Little Sister to harvest her ADAM substance for himself but Dr. Tenenbaum hears him talking and captures Jack before he harms the Little Sister, Dr. Tenenbaum advises Jack to spare the girl and other Little Sisters and provides Jack with a plasmid that would forces the sea slug out of her body safely. Ryan destroys the bathysphere as Jack reaches it, Atlas then directs Jack towards Ryan’s personal office that is guarded by Ryan’s army of Splicers and Big Daddies.
BioShock - ScreenshotEventually, Jack reaches Ryan’s personal office, Ryan is playing golf, waiting for Jack in the office. Ryan explains Jack that he was fully aware of Atlas plans and that Jack is his unlawful child, genetically modified to age rapidly and taken from his mother by Fontaine.
BioShock - ScreenshotFontaine had planned to use Jack as a trump card in his war with Ryan, bringing him back to Rapture when the time was right; Jack's genetics would allow him to access systems such as the bathysphere that Ryan had locked out long ago. With no place to run, Ryan is willing to accept death by his own free will, quoting one of his own principles:
BioShock - ScreenshotBioShock - Screenshot"A man chooses. A slave obeys." He asks Jack "would you kindly" kill him with the golf club, and Jack is compelled to do so. As Ryan dies Jack becomes aware that the phrase "would you kindly" has preceded many of Atlas' commands as a hypnotic trigger forcing him to follow Atlas' orders without question; a flashback reveals Jack himself was responsible for crashing his plane near the bathysphere terminal after reading a letter containing the trigger phrase. Atlas reveals himself as Fontaine,
BioShock - Screenshothaving used the Atlas alias to hide himself while providing a figure for the lower class to rally behind. Without Ryan, Fontaine takes over control of Ryan's systems, and leaves Jack to die as he releases hostile security drones into Ryan's locked office. Dr. Tenenbaum and the Little Sister save Jack by removing Fontaine’s conditioned responses, one that would even have stopped Jacks heart. Jack is able to make his way to Fontaine’s lair to face him with the help of Little Sisters. Fontaine gets cornered by Jack and injects himself with a large dose of ADAM, Fontaine then becomes a monster but Jack kills him in the end with the help of Little Sisters.
