DEAD SPACE 2 - STORY

Dead Space 2 is a science fiction horror game in the year 2508. The player is in control of an engineer named Isaac Clarke, trying to survive on an interstellar ship. The story begins when a starship code named “PlanetCracker”, an interstellar starship designed to extract/mine billions of tons of ore from a planet. The starship sends out a distress signal to ‘Concordance Extraction Corporation’ (CEC) during a mining operation from the planet “Aegis VII”. The CEC sends the USG Kellion (Ship) to investigate. After a guidance system malfunction crashes the Kellion into an interstellar mining ship, into the Ishimura ship’s dock, the crew tries to seek other means of transportation. As they explore what appears to be an abandoned ship under attacked by grotesque monsters that killed everyone but ship systems engineer Isaac Clarke, Commander Zach Hammond, and Computer Specialist Kendra Daniels. Hammond notices that many of the ship’s systems are failing, he and Kendra direct and assist Isaac in fixing them to keep them alive for rescue.
As Isaac Clarke makes the necessary repairs throughout the ship, he discovers various text and audio logs of the event of their arrival on the planet Aegis VII that explained what happened before the disaster, and that it was an illegal mining operation. The Ishimura ship’s crew had found the ‘Red Marker’, a very valuable relic of a powerful religion known as Unitology. The ship’s Captain Mathius, a sincere Unitologist stops the mining operations and focuses on retrieving the Red Market. After the extraction of the Red Marker, humans from the planet’s colony and the ship suffered from violent hallucinations killing each other. An Alien virus genetic coding encrypted on the Red Marker began destroying the Aegis VII colony, infecting any available dead bodies and turning them into “Necromorphs” a mutated and reanimated corpses that violently kill uninfected humans to spread the invasion. The Red Marker is controlling the Necromorphs demons. A colony shuttle carrying an infectious Necromorph caused the infection to spread across the Ishimura ship that killed everyone. I’m leaving out the end of the story because it’s important players discover what happens in the end – In the story the Red Marker is created by the government for military purposes, a reverse-engineered copy of a ‘Black Marker’ found on Earth, the Red Marker was left on the planet to study its effects on people around it. The Black Marker is a Dead Space 3 story that continues a new deadly outbreak.

I played the whole story all night in easy mode and I still found a bit difficult to kill “Necromorphs” demons because how they attack, in DOOM3 demons stay in a distance or at least attack in a better way compared to Dead Space 2 and 3 and there are multiple choices in weapons in DOOM3 because the player is a marine, the story is different and in ‘Dead Space’ the guy is just an engineer, doing a repair job that got stuck in the horrible situation, trying to survive from the outbreak. In Dead Space the way demons attack you, you only have a few choices, run for your life or walk backward while shooting at them, or freeze them a few a seconds and shoot them, basically you have to be quick; kill or be killed. It’s very helpful that the game developers added a guiding system (keyboard shortcut – B + Hold) to find your way throughout the maps for your current mission etc... A colored line appears giving directions that fade away, this feature does, however, lacks in DOOM3, and you can easily get lost in the DOOM3 however it is still fun finding a way out or finding a way in, a mystery or danger waiting to be unlocked. I did enjoy the game story and other details of the game but I cannot compare the gameplay with DOOM3, the reason I’m comparing with DOOM3 is because they both are so similar in story. Sound effects and Music is good but still DOOM3 is far better. If you have played DOOM3 then this game is okay for you to play as a new story is good and graphics etc… but if you are looking for something similar like Dead Space then try DOOM3 that is if you haven’t played it already. If you’re wondering if you should play this game or not then I suggest that it’s a great game, a good story and graphics are pretty good too, etc… I do think this game is worth playing/buying. The game has sold 2 million copies and 1 million sales in 2008 across three platforms.
