GAMEPLAY
Alice’s health is tracked by a number of red rose petals. If Alice health reaches zero, the game loads from the most recent checkpoint. Alice falling off into bottomless pits or dangerous liquids will not damage her health but will restart her at a nearby platform. Alice will discover many secrets and weapons in the levels of Wonderland like shrinking potion that reduces her size, allowing her to walk through keyholes also revealing invisible platforms, surfaces, and guiding arrows. Keyboard shortcut key (left Ctrl + hold). Alice memories can be picked up that reveal parts of the game’s backstory. Once the story is complete, the player can start a new ‘game plus’ that allows memories, weapons, and upgrades from the previous attempt from the main menu.

The Sound effects and background music are amazing, giving a sense of the world and story. If you are having difficulty in controlling Alice’s View then change the settings from the main menu, I had to lower mouse sensitivity when I started playing the game.
The player is in control of Alice and her primary weapon is ‘Vorpal Blade’ a kitchen knife and a few other weapons. Alice collects ‘teeth’ that are dropped by killing enemies or found in a different location in the map that can be used to upgrade each weapon to increase its damage. The ‘Pepper Grinder’ is used to attack distant enemies or distance pig snouts that reveal new paths. The ‘Clockwork’ bomb is a time-delayed and remote controlled, a rabbit alarm clock that has minimal damage and used as a decoy. The ‘Umbrella’ acts as a shield that can be used to deflect and reflect most incoming projectiles. The ‘Teapot Cannon’ fires tea sieves that explode that cause heavy damage. The ‘Hobby Horse’ can be used as a sledgehammer to cause heavy damage or to break barriers and defenses. Alice can float with her dress while jumping from high heights to control landing spot. Alice: Madness Returns is a psychological horror video game ranked 6.5/10, it is the sequel to the “American McGee’s Alice” ranked 9.5/10. Alice Liddell, a 19-year-old girl suffering from trauma caused by a fire that burned her home and the death of her parents. After the tragic event, Alice is kept to ‘Rutledge Asylum’ a psychiatric clinic in Victorian London in the year 1865, where she struggled to confront her demons. Alice believes that she is responsible for the fire that consumed her home and her family. After ten years of treatments, Alice gets discharged in the year 1875 from the psychiatric clinic and is moved to an orphanage for mentally traumatized orphans yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event that destroyed her life, where she lives under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby. The doctor uses hypnotism to help her forget memories, Alice believes she is fine but still she suffers from hallucinations of twisted Wonderland. To end the trauma and to accept the truth of her past, Alice once again falls into Wonderland, where a new evil force has corrupted the wonderland, a place that was once a beautiful refuge for her. Now Alice has to save Wonderland and herself from the madness that consumes both, seeking for knowledge, security and truth that real world can’t provide. Later in the story at the Queen’s castle, the Queen explains Alice that an entity called the Dollmaker is corrupting the Wonderland and has taken over the Infernal Train. Alice meets with the Cheshire cat who confirms that evil corrupting the Wonderland is an outside force (someone from the real world) and not Alice, the cat urges her to seek out previous friend or foe in the real world that is the source of evil that is corrupting the Wonderland.

Later Alice returns to London from Wonderland, Alice starts to remember the night of the fire that consumed her home, she realizes that Dr. Bumby was there the night the of fire making him responsible for fire that killed her family and later he attempts to erase her memories of the fire from her memories making her a blank toy so that she be taken by abusive masters and child molesters for a price. Alice challenges both Dr. Bumby in the real world and in Wonderland, the Dollmaker in Wonderland. When Alice provokes Dr. Bumby in the real world at the Moorgate station (train station) he admits to his crimes, and even confirms to setting Alice’s home on fire, he points out that by wiping out her memories to remove any witnesses. After defeating the Dollmaker in Wonderland, Alice gained strength in the real world and mind. Alice pushes Dr. Bumby into the path of an oncoming train, killing him for what he did to her and her family. Alice finds the truth that was worth the pain fighting for and Wonderland is damaged but safe for the time being. As Alice leaves the train station, she finds herself in a hybrid vision of London mixed with Wonderland, Londerland.
