Gears of War 3 is a military science fiction game, released on (September 20 2011) and published by Microsoft Studios. On June 2015 the sequel Gears of War 4 was announced and is expected to be released in 2016. Gears of War 3 had over one million pre-orders and sold over 3 million copies within a week. Gears of War has ranked 9.5/10 and has been awarded for: Best Shooter, Best Cooperative Mode, Best Xbox 360 game, and Best Action Game. Gears of War 3 supports stereoscopic mode for 3D-TV sets.

There have been five DLCs released:

Horde Command Pack: 3 new maps for use in Versus and Horde mode, a new character, weapon skins, and 3 fortifications that the players can build.
Versus Booster Map Pack: The DLC is free with 5 multiplayer maps, 3 maps were available in the previous DLC “Horde Command Pack” and 2 new maps: Bullet Marsh and Clocktower.
RAAM’s Shadow: 3 new multiplayer characters, new weapon “Chocolate”, new achievements, and over three hours of (Single-Player) gameplay in Sera.
Fenix Rising: Five new multiplayer maps and 4 new character skins and a system that lets the players to rank up through level 100 multiple times.
Forces of Nature: 4 new character models, 5 new weapon skins and 2 weapon skins that can be unlocked, Easter-egg type weapons, Elemental Choppers, and a new map based on weather and natural disasters that consists of 3 new multiplayer maps: Cove, Aftermath, and Artillery.

GAMEPLAY

The player can carry 4 weapons including a pistol, grenades, and two primary weapons. Weapons of fallen enemies can be picked up along with ammunition. A blood-colored “crimson omen” measures the player’s health. If the player takes too much damage and becomes downed, the player must be brought to their feet by an ally within a short period else the player dies in a “bleed out” but in insane difficulty mode the player would immediately die and same logic applies to the enemies. The player will also die with a head shot or by explosives without bleed-out. The player can take cover behind any structure but some cover can also be destroyed after taking some damage, this tactical advantage can draw enemies from cover too.

The player has to maintain an experience level across all game modes, these experience points can be earned by aiding teammates and reviving, and by performing special types of kills and executions. Experience points can also be gained by winning medals and ribbons that are awarded by defeating enemies with certain weapons or by winning matches. The experience points increase the experience levels that unlock the use of special weapons and skins for multiplayer mode.

STORY

Gears of War 3 story takes place after two years when humanity’s stronghold Jacinto is destroyed in order to completely eliminate the Locust Horde. The story begins as Chairman Prescott unexpectedly arrives on the ship, Sovereign. Prescott informs Marcus Fenix that he needs to send important information to the ship’s senior officer, Captain Michaelson. A surprise attack on the ship by the Lambent kills Michaelson and Prescott extremely wounded. Before Prescott dies, he gives Marcus an encryption to the disc that Colonel Hoffman has and explains that his father is still alive but imprisoned on a secret COG base called Azura.
Dom, Baird, Cole, and Marcus go to Anvil Gate Fortress as they fight their way to get the required equipment to decrypt the disc that Prescott gave. As soon as they arrive the Anvil Gate, Marcus and his friends help Hoffman’s soldiers in preventing the joint assault led by Lambent and Locust.
Once the disk’s data is decrypted, Marcus learns that Azura island is protected by hurricane generators and the only way to enter the island’s surface is through underwater by using a submarine.
Marcus and his friends find a submarine but the only problem is that the submarine requires a Imulsion to fuel it. Dom advises Marcus that it is very risky but they might find the fuel in an abandoned town called Mercy. As they enter the city, they discover that humans are becoming Lambent. As they get nearly overrun by locust and Lambent, Dom creates an explosion, sacrifices himself to save his friends.
Depressed, Marcus and his friends forced to continue in search of the fuel as their truck runs out of fuel in the city, Char. The abandoned city is occupied by many deserted civilians that are led by Griffin.
Even though Griffin dislikes COG and Gears, he still tasks Marcus to recover a supply of Imulsion. After they acquired the Imulsion fuel, they are attacked by the Locust Horde, led by Queen Myrrah. Gears escape with the submarine fueled as Griffin’s forces bear heavy wounded in the resulting attack.
As Marcus and his group arrives the island Azura, they discover that the island is a safe haven and resort for Sera’s most important and powerful people. Marcus’s father Adam contacts the Gears and reveals that he is being held prisoner on a hotel tower. Marcus and his group fight their way and rescue his father. Adam then quickly explains that has created a device that eliminate all the Lambent and Locust life forms on Sera. Adam has worked on the device with Myrrah to adjust the wave so that it only affected the Lambent, but with the Imulsion now infecting humans.

As Marcus and his group defend Adam from the Locust and Lambent attack led by Myrrah. Adam then explains that he had infected himself with Lambent cells in order to test his machine. Adam dies as soon as the device starts emitting waves. Myrrah rises from the rubble and starts insulting Adam. Marcus stabs Myrrah with Dom’s commando knife and kills Myrrah. Soon the machine emits a blue wave that sweeps across Sera, destroying all remaining Lambent, and the Imulsion.
In the end the scene shifts back to Marcus, who is sadly wondering what humanity has left. Marcus is comforted by Anya, who promises Marcus that Dom, his friends and his father’s sacrifice have guaranteed humanity a future.
